Brigham's Preschool Program

Yesterday was the last day of school for Jonathan and Brigham. I guess my afternoons of freedom are officially over. (sigh) Oh well, school has been great for both of them and I'm looking forward to sleeping in spending more time with them.

Jonathan's class didn't have anything for the parents, but Brigham's did.

Some of the kids were thrown off by all the people, but Brigham did just fine.

Brigham's teacher is amazing. She loves the kids and every time I've gone over she's bustling around doing the best for the kids. In one meeting I asked her if she knew what song Brigham had been singing because it didn't sound familiar to me. She started up the cd player so I could hear it and sing it at home.

She made a bag for all the kids to take home full of fun things to do like sidewalk chalk, bubbles, folders for them to practice their name, and even a little phone made out of pvc pipe so they can practice sounds and hear their voice.

There are several teachers aides so that the teacher/student ratio is about 2:1. They're always making cute projects which makes it really hard to decide what to keep and what to throw away when he gets home.

This has been great for him. It's fun watching him go about his routine in the classroom, he's knows exactly what to do. I'm glad he'll get to go back next year.

Donut Update

Sorry I haven't posted in a while, I've been busy doing stuff that isn't very interesting to post about.

So, ever since my last batch of donuts I've wanted to try them again, this time with a chocolate glaze. As I mentioned, I've been distracted with other projects. But finally, on a day when I just kept doing stuff even though I was tired, I decided to make some more donuts.

Don't they look fabulous? It was messy though. I ended up just buying pre-made frosting and softening it for 15 seconds in the microwave. Then I dipped them in and let the icing thicken up again on the rack. I think I like it better than the cinnamon and sugar mix, although, like I said, it is a lot messier. So tasty though!

Jaaromy, I know what I want for Mother's Day!

So I was at Shopko on Monday getting random things for the house when I saw the cutest little appliance and decided on the spot that I must have it and, what a coincidence, Mother's Day is coming up so I had the perfect excuse to justify it. I called Jaaromy to make sure he hadn't already made plans for my Mother's Day gift, and he hadn't, so my plan was perfect. What is the cutest little appliance, you ask? Right here:

I'm a sucker for donuts and the pictures on the box looked so tasty. Unfortunately, since it was somewhat of an impulse purchase, I wasn't entirely prepared ingredients-wise. Luckily, I had everything I needed for the donuts themselves, which pretty much makes it the perfect recipe. But I didn't have anything for a glaze so I had to use melted butter and a cinnamon-sugar mix, which was fine, but I really wanted my donuts to look like the ones on the box. Oh well, maybe next time. I certainly wasn't going to let a simple lack of chocolate glaze to keep me from trying out the cutest little appliance though.

Even though you can see my extra chin in this picture, it was still the best one. I decided to use my Dessert Decorator Pro, which was expensive but totally paid for itself the first time I used it to fill deviled eggs. It didn't disappoint. I had them all cooking in no time. It also cooks in practically no time. I timed them for 3 minutes and they came out great.

It didn't seem like much dough, but it made a pretty impressive amount. We ate a lot of them that night and there were still plenty left for the next few days. The kids really liked them. But of course they did, they're DONUTS!

Can't wait to try them again, now that I've been to the store and can make a chocolate glaze. TASTY!
